Taylor Swift Fan Files Lawsuit Against Delta Air Lines Over In-Flight Assault

A woman has taken legal action against Delta Air Lines following a distressing incident of sexual assault that occurred during one of their flights last year.

The Incident

The incident transpired while the woman was traveling from Phoenix to Seattle after attending a Taylor Swift concert. She fell victim to abusive sexual contact by a Delta mechanic who was on duty during the flight. The assault involved the perpetrator, identified as Duane Brick, taking advantage of the victim’s vulnerable state while she appeared to be asleep. Brick admitted guilt in March, acknowledging that he had forcibly placed the victim’s hand on his crotch and groped her breast. This led to his plea of guilty to charges of abusive sexual contact.

Legal Action

In response to the traumatic experience, the victim, represented by Mark Lindquist Law, has filed a lawsuit against Delta Air Lines and the perpetrator in King County, Washington. The lawsuit emphasizes Delta’s responsibility as a common carrier to ensure the safety and well-being of its passengers. It alleges negligence on the part of Delta, citing overserving of alcohol to the assailant, lack of adequate training to prevent such incidents, and failure to promptly address the assault when reported.

Delta’s Response

Delta Air Lines, amidst facing legal action, has refrained from commenting on the ongoing litigation. However, a spokesperson reiterated the company’s stance of maintaining zero tolerance for unlawful behavior on its flights and within airport premises.

Escalating Issue

The unfortunate incident sheds light on a broader problem of sexual assaults on aircraft, a concern echoed by US Attorney Tessa Gorman. The Western District of Washington, in particular, has witnessed a concerning rise in such cases. Despite efforts to address the issue, new allegations continue to surface, prompting ongoing investigations and legal actions.

National Trend

The problem extends beyond the local level, with national statistics revealing a disturbing trend. The FBI has reported a significant increase in sexual assault cases aboard aircraft, indicating a pressing need for comprehensive measures to ensure passenger safety and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
