Introduction A Unified Civic Project

The Mollet del Valles Police Station, designed by taller 9s arquitectes, stands as an integral part of a comprehensive civic project alongside the municipal library and the urbanization of the surrounding area. Together, these structures enhance connectivity and accessibility while revitalizing the public realm near the city center.

Seamlessly Integrated Design

The police station and the library are conceived as a unified entity that seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape. Both buildings feature facades that transition from solid and opaque facing the street to transparent and open towards the newly created public space. Workspaces overlook the park, with adjustable louvers enhancing solar control and natural lighting. Departing from the conventional image of a stern and closed institutional building, the new police station embodies openness and accessibility to the community.

Dual Access Solution

The site’s topography enables the implementation of dual access points. The intermediate level provides public access from the new plaza, while the lower level caters to restricted entry for police personnel and vehicles, with direct connections to internal areas for officers. A central corridor offers panoramic views at its ends, while a linear skylight on the upper floor optimizes natural light and ventilation within the building.

Sustainable Features

The Mollet del Valles Police Station incorporates various sustainable features to minimize its environmental impact. Ventilated polymer concrete facades, green roofing, thermal solar panels, optimized glazing, and passive systems collectively contribute to a 49% reduction in energy consumption compared to an equivalent tertiary building.

Conclusion: A Model of Efficiency and Accessibility

As a cornerstone of the municipal infrastructure, the Mollet del Valles Police Station exemplifies a harmonious blend of functionality, sustainability, and community engagement. Its innovative design not only fosters efficiency and resource conservation but also fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for both law enforcement personnel and the public alike.
