Sonzay’s Sports Dojo Blending Functionality with Rural Charm
Situated at the entrance of the village, Sonzay’s Sports Dojo stands as a new addition to the existing sports complex, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscape while prioritizing functionality for sports practice.
Harmonizing with Nature
The design of the facility takes cues from its rural setting, with careful consideration given to both its interior and exterior aspects. The orientation, openings, and facade cladding are intricately tied to the natural landscape, ensuring a harmonious blend with the surroundings. A square volume, covered in Douglas-fir cladding, echoes traditional farmhouses, preserving the rural character of the site.
Interior Serenity
Inside, the design ethos continues, with a focus on creating a conducive space for sports activities. The framework, deliberately left visible, lends a distinct character to the interior, especially above the tatami mats. The layout revolves around the mat area, with clear programmatic lanes delineating cloakrooms, restrooms, technical rooms, and circulation spaces. A contemplation lane in the North opens up to panoramic views of the landscape in the South, offering a serene environment for athletes and spectators alike.
Natural Light and Comfort
Large pane windows, adorned with a 1.40m lintel, flood the interior with natural light, enhancing visibility without causing glare or discomfort for judokas. The innovative design of the window panels ensures optimal acoustic comfort while adding a touch of uniqueness to the space.
Sustainable Construction
In line with eco-conscious principles, the construction prioritizes the use of raw and bio-sourced materials to minimize structural work. Apart from the foundations and roof, the entire building is crafted from wood, including insulation, framework, partitions, interior joinery, and furniture.
In essence, Sonzay’s Sports Dojo embodies a harmonious fusion of functionality, rural aesthetics, and sustainability, serving as a testament to thoughtful architectural design in a natural landscape.
